Exchange programme promotes sustainable peace


Social Justice & Sustainable Peace unit of Caritas Kurunegala Janasetha organized a peace building tour from 22 July 2012 to the village of Pavatkodichenai in the district of Batticaloa,

A village that  was severely affected by the internal war with the participation of members from Inter Religious Organizations and Religious Heads belonging to different religions. The purpose of this visit was to share the bitter experience of the affected villagers with the visiting members. The visitors were received by Rev.Fr.Cryton Outschoorn, Director of Caritas EHED, Batticaloa.
The visiting team of members took part in a ‘Shramadana  Campaign’  along with the villagers in the ‘Vinayagar Vidyalaya ‘ compound after visiting most of the religious shrines in the district of Batticaloa. Following the Shramadana in Batticaloa plants which were brought bt the visitors were planted in the school compound and were also distributed to the villagers to be planted in their own compounds.

In the evening they took part in a discussion programme with the members of the Batticaloa Inter Religious Organization at  Charles Hall in Batticaloa. This programme was organized by the the Social Justice & Sustainable Peace Unit of Caritas EHED, Batticaloa.
